What is Code 95?

Code 95 is an indication on your license that you have completed the initial qualification for professional drivers (basiskwalificatie, in Dutch). This training must be followed by all professionals who hold a C (truck) or a D (bus) licence.

This is a requirement for drivers who plan to work abroad. This is especially important for those with an e-driver's license of category D.

Professional truck and bus drivers

Regular training

All drivers who transport goods or passengers professionally in the European Union must have the Code 95 on their driving licence. This means that the drivers have had a minimum of 35 hours training over a five-year period in the country where they reside or work. This training must include both theoretical and practical classes.

Truck drivers with the code 95 on their driving licence must attend refresher training every five years in order to keep their professional driver's license valid. In the Netherlands, the Central Bureau for Driver Testing (Centraal Bureau Rijvaardigheidsbewijzen, CBR) checks whether a driver has completed the training.

During the course, students will learn about tachograph operation and your rights and obligations as truck driver.
