India has now prepared a list of 275 Chinese apps after banning 59 Chinese apps last month. The government will now investigate whether these Chinese apps are violating the rules of national security and user privacy. Some sources associated with the case said that the government has tightened up the investigation of the chinese apps and it is likely that more Chinese Internet companies may be banned in the country.

According to the Economic Times report, the government has taken this step after banning 59 Chinese apps, including the short video app TikTok, last month. The government has prepared a list of 275 apps, including the gaming app PUBG. It is owned by China’s most valuable internet company Tencent. Apart from this, apps such as phone maker Xiaomi’s Jilly, Alibaba’s AliExpress as well as TikTok’s proprietary company BiteDance’s Resso and ULike are included in this list.

A source said that the government cannot ban all these apps. The Home Ministry spokesperson did not respond to this. However, official sources said that Chinese apps and their funding are being investigated. Some of these apps have been categorized as security-risk, while others have been listed for checking data sharing and privacy violations.

According to industry estimates, Chinese Internet companies have around 300 million unique users in India, which means that two-thirds of smartphone users in the country have downloaded a Chinese app. There are 14 apps of Xiaomi in the list of 275 Chinese apps prepared for investigation. Also included are Capcut, FaceU, Meitu, LBE Tech, Perfect Corp, Sina Corp, Netiz Games, Yuju Global.
