Dick Lavine, senior fiscal analyst at the think-tank Every Texan, said it's too early to worry about the possibility of a rapidly rising property taxes since he believes Texas legislatures are equipped with the resources to calm people's worries.

"You can't say whether property taxes are going up; tax rates are being set right now," Lavine explained to Austin Journal. "Just that your appraisal is up does not mean that your final tax bill will go up. I believe it's too far too early to know the final amount your tax bill is likely to be."

He encourages people to look up online resources to get a better understanding of what the tax bill could be prior to becoming unhappy. But he also knows that tax burdens on property are a major concern for a lot of residents.

Two constitutional amendments that reduce property taxes were approved by voters who had landslide margins May 7.

Texas Proposition 1 which is which provides a school maintenance and operation tax cut for seniors and disabled citizens passed by an 87.03 percentage to 12.97 percentage margin.
